How do you choose the most suitable tick and parasite control product for your dog?
When choosing a product, you should always consider your dog's weight, age and everyday lifestyle. For dogs that often go into the woods, long grass or hunting, long-acting special treatments such as parasite control collars or spot-on treatments applied to the back of the neck work best. If your dog loves swimming very often or needs lighter protection for walks in town, natural and plant-based sprays and protective products based on essential oils can be a good alternative.
What should you do if you find a tick on your dog?
A tick should be removed as quickly as possible to reduce the risk of transmitting dangerous infectious diseases (e.g. Lyme disease or anaplasmosis). Use special tick tweezers, gripping the parasite as close to the skin as possible and pulling it straight up or with a slight twist (according to the tool's instructions). Don't apply oil, cream or surgical spirit to the tick, as this makes the parasite release more saliva into the skin. After removal, disinfect the bite site and keep an eye on how your dog is feeling over the following weeks.
